The rationing of meat started in Bavaria in May 1916. At first, the meat ration cards were valid only in the Kingdom of Bavaria but the German Chancellor decided in August 1916 to introduce meat ration cards which were valid in the whole area of Germany. Nevertheless the meat ration cards issued in different German states differed from state to state with respect to the layout, length of validity periods and types of meat cards. In this overview article the author describes different types of local Bavaria meat cards issued between May and September 1916 and all nation-wide meat cards issued in Bavaria in 1916-1920.
